Thai Lotto, also known as Thai lottery, is the national lottery of Thailand and played by over 19 million people living there. The lottery is one of only two legal forms of gambling within Thailand – horse racing in Bangkok being another. Although most forms of gambling are banned there, Thai lotto remains highly popular; taking place twice each month between January 1st and 16th; it is especially well received among foreigners living there as well.
Thais commonly employ superstitious means when selecting lottery numbers. These methods include everything from dream interpretation and numerological guidance to dates, anniversaries and significant events analysis in order to ascertain which numbers are lucky for them. Others simply select random numbers on an assumption that luck comes down solely to chance.
Thailand takes their lottery seriously and local media are full of stories about all sorts of unconventional measures Thais use to try and find their winning numbers – like speaking with spirits, praying to trees that bear similarities to religious icons, or collecting license plate numbers from victims (both alive and dead) of accidents.
Street vendors would often increase ticket prices to make more than the government would give them for prizes, leading to widespread corruption. As part of efforts to combat such practices, in June this year the Thai lottery went digital, offering lottery players the ability to buy tickets directly online rather than through street vendors – this was welcomed news to many Thais tired of street vendor scams.
When purchasing a Thai lotto ticket, it is essential to be wary of counterfeit tickets on the market. Fake tickets often feature paper that does not feature watermarks or any security features; additionally, their papers tend to be much translucent than original tickets; fakes may even lack six-digit numbers altogether.
Purchase only genuine Thai Lotto tickets from licensed sellers to avoid being scammed and having your winnings confiscated. If you plan on buying multiple tickets, it is advisable to only do so from sellers trusted by many Thais, in order to guarantee high quality tickets and legitimate wins. Likewise, if you plan on winning a large sum of money in Thailand’s lottery, it would be prudent to open a bank account there in order to facilitate its transfer and avoid any complications with taxation. Also it’s recommended that only residents purchase tickets as collecting any winnings may prove challenging otherwise.
