Lottery Online
Whether it’s the thrill of the game or the promise of sudden wealth, the lottery unites people around the world in shared dreaming and fuels human spirit with the tantalizing possibility of life-altering fortune. Moreover, even when a winner’s luck runs out, the experience of playing the lottery fosters a sense of hope and optimism. In addition, winning the lottery brings in revenues for organizers and can spur consumption behavior as consumers imagine how they might spend their windfall.
The lottery, which is held twice a month on the 1st and 16th of each month, is one of only two forms of legal gambling in Thailand. It is popular among Thais, with 19.6% of the population participating each year, and is the country’s second largest source of state revenue. It is administered by the Government Lottery Office (GLO).
A GLO representative, referred to as a “Draw Chairman,” conducts each draw. He or she inspects the equipment and balls for irregularities, then selects a number to initialize each machine. A six-digit number is then drawn for the first prize. The last two digits are then drawn for the bonus prize of 22 million baht*.
Tickets are pre-printed with a range of anti-counterfeiting features and can only be purchased in ticket pairs. They are also sold in supermarkets and convenience stores, with the winnings deposited into the bank account of the lucky winner. The lottery is only available for residents of Thailand, although tourists have been known to win prizes while visiting the country.
