Lottery hanoi, with its promise of sudden wealth, unites people in a shared dream and fuels the human spirit. It’s also a source of income for organizers, a source of entertainment for spectators, and a potential economic stimulus. Winners, flush with their windfall, might inject the money into the local economy. And even if the prize money is not won, the lottery experience fosters optimism and hope for the future.
The Thai lottery is an official state-sanctioned gambling activity. It is drawn twice per month, on the first and the sixteenth of each month, and is one of two forms of legalized gambling in Thailand (the other being horse racing). While any person in the country can play the lottery, foreigners are not allowed to buy tickets outside of the country.
All thai lotto tickets are pre-printed and include a number of anti-counterfeiting features. They can only be purchased in “ticket-pairs.” Tickets are numbered on the verso and have a corresponding ticket number on the underside. Each ticket pair is priced at 80 baht.
Each lottery draw begins with the “Draw Chairman” selecting a colored ball to initialize each machine. A machine is then randomly selected and the numbers are displayed on a screen. If you match the six digits correctly, you win.
The first prize for a full match of all six digits is B30 million. A bonus prize of B22 million used to exist for those who got all five digits correct, but the military government has abolished this prize after 1 Aug 2015. The second prize is for matching three of the six digits. The third and fourth prizes are for matching two of the six digits.
