The Lao government recently addressed these concerns by sending a directive to the Ministry of Finance, which oversees the country’s legal state lottery, to work closely with the ministry of public security to prevent illegal lotteries. The directive also requested that the state lottery reduce the number of drawings from two to one per week and that all prizes be distributed in a transparent manner. Additionally, informal football lotteries and lottery chances purchased via short messaging service will be closed down.
