Xia Rattanakone, 44, came to the United States in 1979 after being adopted by an American family, but she said her heart has always been in Laos.
When she heard the winning numbers for the October 30 lottery draw — 468487 – she was thrilled. She was even more excited when she learned the winning combination had been paired with lucky animal symbols: 20 for crab, 21 for weaverbird, and 11 for dog. These creatures were believed to carry the winds of good fortune.
